O leg or bowlegs is a condition where the knee remains wide open when a person stands even with the ankles and soles of the feet pressed together. Not infrequently children experience O legs at birth, although generally it will start to improve around the age of 15 to 18 months.
O-leg condition, or in the medical world called genu varum, which occurs in children aged 2 years and over, should be consulted by a doctor. Because these conditions may be a sign or symptom of an underlying disease.
Various Causes of Feet O
One of the causes of prolonged O leg condition in infants, generally due to Blount disease, is a growth disorder that affects the lower limbs, precisely in the shin (tibia), and causes the legs to grow bent. This condition may have been seen early on, although some cases may go unnoticed until they reach adolescence. Over time, this disease will cause interference with the sufferer's knee joints. One of the risk factors that cause children to experience Blount disease is due to the process of learning to walk too early. Ideally, a child should usually start walking alone between the ages of 11 and 14 months. The risk of this disease also increases in obese children. Other causes of O-leg are as follows:Rickets
Rickets is a condition due to prolonged vitamin D deficiency, which weakens the bones causing the lower limbs to bend.
Paget's disease
This metabolic disease negatively affects the way your bones repair themselves. As a result, bone strength becomes not as it should be. Paget's disease is more common in older people, but with early diagnosis and treatment, it can generally be treated properly.
Dwarfism
Dwarfism can be caused by a condition known as achondroplasia, which is a bone growth disorder which in its development can result in O.
